In 1971 a concrete pad was poured and a steel building that was 62x72x16 feet tall was erected in house by the park with Bob Bell Sr. and Bob Jr. doing most of the framing and even operating the large crane that would help assemble the tops of the facade and steeples. Standard 2x4 wood framing was used with 15 separate rooms created, including a “Tilt Room” for a water feature. When it came to laying out the dip in front of the ride, Bob Bell Jr. said he was completely unscientific and simply let a 3/16 inch piece of thin lattice wood strip lay down and it was used as a guide to build the feature. |

Bill Tracy had supplied the plans for the ride which included artwork for multiple interior and facade designs. Tracy also supplied the initial stunts and gags that were shipped out to Bell's from the East Coast. The park would also be responsible for putting these in. Bob Bell Jr. explained recently that the Tracy props, while designed to scare intensely, were engineered poorly, so much that many scenes did not fit the ride's blueprints and spacing, and most of the props had to be re-engineered for both stability and safety. Finally, after weeks of work, the props were ready to go. |
